Microsoft Teams has become the established platform for communication and collaboration in many companies. At the same time, requirements relating to data protection, compliance, legal certainty and data sovereignty are increasing. Particularly when sensitive and business-critical files are involved, companies need to consider whether SharePoint and OneDrive are the right storage locations.
With netfiles for Microsoft Teams, your company does not have to give up its established working environment. Teams remains the interface for day-to-day collaboration, while confidential files are securely stored, edited and exchanged in netfiles Data Room.
The best of both worlds – native integration with comprehensive data room functionality
The new app brings the secure netfiles Data Room directly into Microsoft Teams. Users can access existing data rooms from their familiar Teams environment without storing sensitive files in SharePoint or OneDrive.
Supported functions include:
uploading and managing files,
structuring data rooms,
managing access rights,
creating and administering users,
editing Office documents online,
and sharing files and folders with Teams users or in Teams channels.
Permissions remain fully controlled through netfiles Data Room. Even when content is shared in Teams, the files remain in netfiles and are not copied to Microsoft’s infrastructure. The app can be used both as a personal app and within a Teams channel. This makes the appropriate data room directly available in the relevant working context.

Combining control and productivity
The goal of netfiles for Microsoft Teams is to ensure that companies do not have to choose between data sovereignty and ease of use.

After logging in to netfiles, users can continue working directly from Teams without giving up the familiar netfiles functionality or its secure data room environment. Features such as collaborative online editing of Office documents also remain available. Even when users access documents through Teams, processing continues to take place within the highly secure and certified netfiles infrastructure in Germany.
This allows companies to combine the familiar Teams interface with sovereign data management – Made & hosted in Germany.
Included with netfiles Data Room
netfiles for Microsoft Teams is included with netfiles Data Room Professional and Premium. There are no additional license fees for using the integration. Administrators remain in control and can enable or disable use of the Teams app for individual data rooms.
The integration is therefore suitable both for company-wide secure file storage and for selected projects and data rooms with particularly high confidentiality and access-control requirements.
How to use netfiles for Microsoft Teams
The app can be installed through the official Microsoft Teams App Store:
1. Select the “+” icon, either in your personal apps in the left-hand sidebar or in the channel tabs.
2. Search for netfiles in the App Store and add the app to your Teams environment.
3. After logging in, you can access your data rooms and use netfiles either as a personal app or directly within a Teams channel.
